Pei Kwang is a designer and illustrator based in Sydney, who works in both the digital space as well as with traditional mediums such as Posca and Gouache. Pei’s work is rich with detail, colour, texture, and strong narratives. Motivated by a desire for storytelling, Pei's art is filled with characters in whimsical settings. Pei also finds influence from her Malaysian Chinese roots and later upbringing in Australia.
“I am particularly passionate about the Cantonese language, as I feel that it isfast becoming a dying language,” she says. “Prior to my design and illustration career, I worked as a Marketing Assistant at an international language school, where I worked closely with Chinese students from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. The experience fuelled my passion for the Chinese language.I want my illustrations to provide a fun experience for young people of Chinese heritage or roots to learn/understand their culture and language.”
