Aksen Ilhan is a Turkish-Australian teacher and emerging writer. She has been an English teacher working with diverse groups of students and adults for 22 years. She volunteers as the Vice-President of the Muslim Women’s group at the Brunswick Mosque in Victoria. Aksen was the volunteer public relations officer for Meadow Heights’ Mosque female youth group, Sareera. With Sareera she created the first International Hijab Day event in Australia, Street Iftar, and curated a Scarf Art exhibition in the City of Hume. She received training on media relations from Peter Clarke, pioneer of national talkback on radio. Her work was published in VATE, Idiom Journal and Emel magazine, community Turkish newspapers; Yeni Devir and Dunya,and the Guardian. She is the co-founder of The Right Pen Collective who held the first virtual Australian Muslim Writers festival in 2021. She is tri-lingual and enjoys speaking English, Turkish and Arabic.
